Defensive techs are what allow players to protect the gold that they produce and steal. These techs will not help a player at all offensively, but defenders may still be able to find a few attackers with little enough defense to attack.

- Archer
- Allows you to create archers. Archers have 3 times the power of a soldier and cannot attack. Training an archer costs 200 gold and they consume 2 food every 30 minutes.

- Watchtower
- Allows you to build a watchtower. A watchtower doubles the defensive power of your units. Building a watchtower costs 1,000 gold.

- Fence
- Allows you to build fences. Fences double the defensive power of your units. You must build a fence on each side of your city in order to get the full benefit. Building a fence costs 2,500 gold per side.

- Siege Defense Strategy
- Allows for more advanced control of your defense. You can choose if you want your units to stay in minimum defense or defend normally.

- Tower
- Allows you to build a tower. A tower multiplies the defensive power of your units by 1.5. Building a tower costs 15,000 gold.

- Walls
- Allows you to build walls. Walls multiply the defensive power of your units by 1.5. You must build a wall on each side of your city in order to get the full benefit. Building a wall costs 15,000 gold per side.

- Advanced Siege Defense Strategy
- Allows for more advanced control of your defense. You can choose how many of your defending units must die before you automatically go into minimum defense mode.

- Halberdier
- Allows you to create halberdiers. Halberdiers have 3 times the power of an archer and cannot attack. Training a halberdier costs 400 gold and they consume 4 food every 30 minutes.

- Castle
- Allows you to build a castle. A castle doubles the defensive power of your units. Building a castle costs 60,000 gold.

- Fortified Walls
- Allows you to build fortified walls. Fortified walls double the defensive power of your units. You must build a fortified wall on each side of your city in order to get the full benefit. Building a fortified wall costs 60,000 gold per side.

- Counter Espionage
- This tech makes intelligence operations run against you fail more often.

- Stronghold
- Allows you to build a stronghold. A stronghold multiplies the defensive power of your units by 1.5. Building a stronghold costs 250,000 gold.

- Crossbowman
- Allows you to create crossbowmen. Crossbowmen have 3 times the power of halberdiers and cannot attack. Training a crossbowman costs 600 gold and they consume 8 food every 30 minutes.

- Allows you to build moats. Moats multiply the defensive power of your units by 1.5. You must build a moat on each side of your city in order to get the full benefit. Building a moat costs 250,000 gold per side.
